Motorhead - Ace Of Spades
49m
Rock still rules the world and in the world of rock Motorhead rule, and in the world of Motorhead, ‘Ace of Spades’ is the dirtiest, meanest, toughest album of them all. ‘Ace of Spades’ can claim a pivotal role in inspiring some of the greatest rock acts of all time.
Known primarily as a live act and a touring band, we enter into the anarchic world of some of rock’s truly unique characters. Motorhead’s overwhelmingly loud and fast style of heavy metal was groundbreaking in the late 70s and though Lemmy’s roots were in the progressive space rock band Hawkwind he chose to amplify the heavy biker rock elements with the speed of punk when he formed Motorhead. They weren’t punk, forming before the Sex Pistols, but they were just as anarchic and they were the first metal band to harness punk energy in their frenzied wall of sound. ‘Ace of Spades’ was the album that sealed Motorhead’s reputation as the loudest and heaviest band in the world.
This programme looks at the classic tracks from the album through interviews with all band members from this their classic line up. Lemmy, Phil ‘Philthy Animal’ Taylor and ‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke discuss life in the feisty and debauched world of Motorhead and the band play some of their legendary tracks especially for the documentary.
The programme is illustrated with archive footage and interviews with some of the biggest names in rock including Lars Ulrich of Metallica and Slash.
